Founded in 1987 through a tripartite agreement between the Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), the institute was designed to bridge the skills gap and enhance service quality within the sector.
With the enactment of the NIHOTOUR Act, 2022, the institute has been legally mandated to train, certify, and regulate professionals in the hospitality and tourism space, ensuring adherence to global best practices while fostering sustainable growth in Nigeria’s tourism economy.
